Carousel_assets has one row for each asset in the carousel. Position orders the display: rows render by (position, id), gaps are allowed, and the numbers carry no meaning beyond their order. Density is not an invariant, so nothing may depend on positions being sequential or starting from 1.

Adding an asset appends it after the last position. Inserting at a taken position shifts the following rows up by one, a single update in the same transaction as the insert; removing a row deletes it and leaves the gap.

Removal is a hard delete, the same exception to the no-delete rule the likes table makes. Recovery lives on the asset itself: a row pointing at a soft-deleted asset stays and displays the deleted placeholder.
